Vigil for Sabina Nessa

This happened quite a few days ago, and most of the pictures, flowers and candles are now looking a bit bedraggled.  It took place in Queens Square, a huge grassy square in the city centre, which I walked through today. It was this placard that attracted my attention.
As I’m sure you know, Sabina Nessa was another young woman murdered in the street in London recently, while walking a few minutes from her home. Her murder is often linked in the media with the death of Sarah Everard. 
Now the beam of public attention has been shone on violence against women, the ideas that tend to emerge are about women adapting how they behave (dress modestly, walk in well-lit streets, etc)  - which is why I agree with the placard. Of course most men are not murderers and rapists, most are not intimidating or threatening.  But it IS men who need to change their behaviour, to bring about change. Parents and schools need to educate boys not to be violent. To each other or to women.
