It was a great day of killing plants! I emptied a pot of a weed tree by just pulling the whole thing out of the pot and throwing it over the deck. My neighbor lent me her shears and it was so satisfying chopping up weeds - and tossing them off the deck. The sheers had really long handles which meant they were easier to use than previous shears I've lost, and if I couldn't close them, I used my legs.

I covered even more vinca with even more cardboard.

Yesterday I went to a gardening store and couldn't resist some of the colors. Today I planted them, moved stones to outline a path from my backdoor through the yard to the gate so I can plant around it, and moved my flagstones into a path to the other gate.

Kate learned that I've been torturing an acuba, keeping it caged in the dark so I freed it from its pot, moved it closer to the sun, and bought it a friend. While at the store, buying the friend, I saw a huge pot on 70% sale, happily grabbed it to pull it down, and got a bunch of rainwater all over me. Everyone needs to shower at some point.

By rescuing the acuba I now have an enormous pot to put a Butterfly Japanese Maple in while it grows big enough to clear the wall at which point I can plant it close to the wall.

:-)

Such a good three-day weekend.
