A Flicker In The Flowers

This handsome male spent a lot of time pecking around in the grass and all the while I stood by waiting, camera-ready, for him to take off so I could get a picture of his handsome back end with his white tail.  Of course, he never left.  He seemed quite happy to stay right where he was which surprised me since usually the slightest movement will send them off.  These Northern Flickers are such beautiful birds.  They have wonderful colors with both stripes and polka dots.

Question of the day:  Just how many peanuts will a squirrel try to cram in its mouth?  The answer so far, at least here, is three.  Sadly, they have to leave numbers four, five and six for a second trip, although not for want of trying. Their effort to carry more at one time is comical in a way, although I have great sympathy for any creature which spends its day searching for food.  I'll keep the feeder full and the camera ready just in case one of them succeeds in getting to four at a time.
