I did put a donation in their tin, in case you're wondering. These two were by the Big Egg Hunt in Covent Garden this morning. A mother and son team (and she works for the charity) They were pretty cold, too.

I was down for the day, for the dress rehearsal of "Nabucco". The really famous chorus of the Hebrew Slaves is nearly as well known as "Nessun Dorma" (you'd recognise it if you heard it) but the opera is not that often produced.

Magnificent. Placido Domingo is taking over the title role later in the run, but the opening cast are terrific. Leo Nucci was strong and perfect as Nabucco and the two sopranos (both BIG ladies with BIG voices in contrast to the modern fashion) were amazing. Apparently, the role of Abigaille, is a killer. Several famous names refused to sing it (including Dame Joan Sutherland) and a couple said it ruined their voices.

You could tell we were in for a great lunchtime when spontaneous applause broke out for the overture ! A great £4 of anyone's money.
