Progress! Lumix M4/3 20mm

"Upper Management", aka my Editor, got involved this last weekend and we  chose the patterns in the olive-ash burl which now decorate the three drawer fronts. Here is a link to an earlier Blip of the design concept.
We used a mirror to represent the reversed figure of the burl.  Then we calculated what percentage of each drawer panel would be taken up with a medallion, and how much would form a more neutral background for the inlayed arabeques which are to follow.  The penciled marks representing each sheet of veneer in its correct place bear witness to how tricky this process is.  Then I went to the bench to cut the burl along the lines we had chosen: the Crossing-of-the-Rubicon moment, as it were. The next step is to tape all the panels together, making sure the joints are tight.  Then the scariest part: when the glue goes on with a paint roller, and the burl starts to twist itself into a pretzel from the moisture, before the caul goes on top of it to hold everything flat.  A final check to make sure the midpoints are centered, and then twelve heavy clamps apply hundreds of pounds of pressure to the mix.
