Stuff and Nonsense

Wigeon #96

We feel so lucky to still be having such wonderful sunny weather in Devon. Today we went to the river Exe estuary and sampled two of the RSPB reserves at Bowling Green Marsh and Powderham Marshes. We parked at Topsham and walked along the Strand and the Goat walk along to the hide which was a wonderful place for loads of birds to roost at high tide and the light was lovely. It was full of redshanks and godwits, at least 10 little egrets, a few herons, pintail, teal and wigeons. It was wonderful.
After a light lunch at The Lighter Inn at Topsham and then went for a walk at Powderham Marshes across the other side of the estuary. In terms of numbers it was much quieter, but we did see some more notable species - 2 cattle egrets, 2 Great white egrets, curlew, a buzzard and a lovely Marsh harrier. We walked back along the canal(extra). A long, but thoroughly enjoyable day.
