HISTORIC UCKFIELD TOUR: CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS

This is Uckfield Church… or Chapel – I don't really know the difference.
The original church was built around 1291, but that was replaced by the present parish church in 1839.
It is situated on an ancient ridgeway route from the direction of Winchester in the West, and Rye and Canterbury in the East.
Local hostelries along the route are the Maiden's Head, the King's Head (now the Cinque Ports) and the Spread Eagle.
Uckfield was part of the Archbishop's extensive Manor of South Malling.
There are a lot of crosses in the church's garden, but I don't know which is the 'holy' one.
Uckfield has a few other churches etc, but strangely no place of worship for Pastafarians.
I've thought about starting one, but property prices are sky high and there aren't many other Pastafarians living here.
On the other hand, Religion – whether you believe in it or not, is a business – it always was, and always will be.
In 2013 the Church of England's revenue was £1.41 billion, yet they paid no tax on it, so it might be worth reconsidering!
