Haughmond Abbey

Mum has a hospital appointment in a couple of week. Mum & Dad had planned to come and visit next week but the instructions from hospital ask for minimum social contact in the few days prior to the appointment to reduce the COVID risk. So, on the spur of the moment last week, PY and I decided to do a one day trip that found us at Euston station and 8:30am this morning and again at 11:40pm this evening having spent a lovely day in Shrewsbury in the intervening hours. I did find it odd this morning that our train from Raynes Park departed ahead of time - which is nice when you have connections - but would have perplexed anybody coming to the platform on time.  Still, all the trains were great today. It is so much easier when it all works.

After lunch we went to view the ruins of  Haughmond Abbey which I don’t recall having visited before but assume that I must have done when I lived in Shropshire.  Apparently, it was founded in the early 12th century but there really isn’t a lot left but, what there is, makes for quite a stunning view. Added to the surroundings, it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and there were not too many people around which made it lovely.
