The Gas Well

Strange lights through the trees, large structures appearing then disappearing. Better have a look. Found a drill rig a few weeks ago (no camera of course!!) but at least they had a sign.
A quick Google and you find a company drilling into old redundant coal mines to retrieve natural gas. Apparently 10% of domestic gas in the US is obtained this way. At the moment they are de-watering the beds so that they can appraise the field. I found 4 wells on my cycle today. I'll keep a look out for the rig.

They are also getting involved in carbon sequestration (sounds painful). I'll be having a nosey at that some time as well.
