Hop Dog
Found this furry monster crossing the road whilst out with Henry.
It will become a Pale Tussock Moth if it manages to avoid the cars.
The moth is apparently quite common in the southern half of England, but scarcer in the north. We're about in the middle so I'm not sure if its common or not! Found in gardens, woods and hedgerows [which is where I found this specimen. they enjoy deciduous leaves and brambles as well as hops. Hop pickers used to call them Hop Dogs, and the hairs were supposed to have caused allergic reactions amongst the pickers.
