Punch
The theme for today's Mono Monday hosted by Laurie54 is 'An Invention'. When I started 'working' from home in March 2020 I bought two essential pieces of office equipment, a stapler and a two-hole punch. It has had plenty of use over the time.
The two hole punch was invented and patented, along with the ring binder, by the German Friedrich Soennecken in 1886. An earlier form of hole punch had been invented by the American Benjamin Smith 1885 but this was primarily aimed at ticket collectors.
Soennecken started an office products manufacturing business in 1875. This went bankrupt in 1973 and was taken over by BRANION EG. who still uses the Soennecken label. He was also a calligraphy enthusiast who pioneered the widely used “round writing” style of script.
In other news: Ann spent this morning painting the ceiling in Tom's old room. Tom moved out a while back when he rented his flat in Stratford and the room needed a spruce up. After lunch we went to The Farm for a walk and coffee.
