Monday: Kitty Corner

Well, the wind really did come to something.  Last night was punctuated with creaking sounds, gusts of wind and car alarms.  Today, the leaves were swirling around, the clouds were quite wild and there was a funny yellow tinge to the air.  Interestingly, each west coast blipper has also mentioned it, so there’s one for the history books.

I worked downtown today and had a coffee meeting in this building, Cathedral Place.  There’s a bit of a story to this.  When I first arrived, I met a new contact for lunch in the building opposite and, during the course of our conversation, I asked where her office was.  ‘Kitty Corner’, she said, and pointed to this building.  So, for the longest time, I thought this building was nicknamed Kitty Corner and would often refer to it as such, much to the bemusement of others.

Turns out that ‘kitty corner’ is a phrase used here and which I’d never come across.  Basically, it means diagonally opposite.  In the UK we just say…..’diagonally opposite’.
