Ball smacking
Any day which begins with a breakfast of a pile of scrambled eggs on heavily buttered sourdough toast accompanied by a generous helping of smoked salmon is going to be a good one.
Particularly when it is followed by a trip to the driving range. Who doesn’t enjoy walloping some balls? Not even held a gold club for over two years, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was still able to hit the ball reasonably well and straight. I was there to deliver a little amateur tuition to a keen student who picked it up very quickly and was soon smacking the ball straight down the middle and also chipping into the short-range baskets. I recognised the biting of the bug that comes with the thrill of hitting the ball out of the middle of the club (not as easy as you might think) a few times and seeing it soar off into the distance.
With a beautiful day in progress, an overdue trip to, and wander around Kirkby Lonsdale followed, taking in Ruskin’s View (extra) and a walk along the river to Devil’s Bridge, where the main shot is taken from. I’m not sure if the other bridge in this shot shares the same name or not? Naturally, after all the ball walloping and sight-seeing lunch was needed.
There was a bit of light dozing in the afternoon in front of Casino Royale (Daniel Craig version – I maintain, his best one), a walk in the fading evening light to get some supplies before some wine, cheese and biscuits and warming up in front of the fire combined to lead me into a deep slumber.
Having had a few ropey Mondays of late, it was good to turn the tide in spectacular fashion and have some fun in the sun. Got to take these opportunities where you can!
