Dunnottar Castle
I started off the day with a quick run around the grounds of Wardhill Castle. The route was just under three miles, which was a little less than I wanted, but despite the simple route, I still managed to get lost and consequently did just over four miles. Every cloud!
And after a bath and a fantastic breakfast prepared by the Minx, we set off for a bit of sightseeing. I have noticed that we are attracted to water, whether that's lakes or coastlines, and on this occasion it was the latter, and, more specifically, the "ruined fortress"* of Dunnottar Castle.
I have to say, ruined or no, it's a spectacular place to visit. Whoever, maintains it has done a brilliant job. There's just enough information provided on the way 'round to keep it interesting but not enough to prevent me from regretting that I didn't buy the little guide book at the ticket office.
After an enjoyable hour or so looking 'round, we went into Stonehaven (see Extra) for lunch but the somewhat utilitarian pub had stopped serving just before we arrived. Still, it was a pleasant enough place to sit by the window, enjoying the view, and reading our books.
*I'm not dissing it. That's according to the tourist panel board thing.
