nest
Yesterday, when I was at work, the roofers went up into our loft space to check for water ingress. We don't store anything in the loft so haven't looked in there for a long, long time.
D said that when the hatch was opened, a broken wasp nest fell out and there was also another one, bigger than a football, hanging from the ceiling. Of course, both nests were empty of wasps now, but there may be a queen hibernating up there somewhere. We have had a bee colony living in another part of the roof space for a long time - it has reportedly been there for over 50 years. Neither the bees or wasps have ever caused us problems.
This is a part of the nest which fell down. I think it is beautiful and must have taken many wasp-hours to make..
