Pumpkin farm

It was quite a drive to near Thirsk to the pumpkin farm which was booked for 2pm so we stopped en route at Mount Grace priory for the boys to get a run round and have a picnic lunch. I had a quick look round the pretty Arts and Crafts house while the boys played hide and seek in the ruins.

James and I were talking about me not eating meat. Why? I said about how we grew crops for the cows to eat but instead we’d just eat the crops. Plus cows farted I said so contributed to the problem of global warming. “When you kill them to eat you stop the farting!” Says James quick as a flash, the boy now aged 7 who can barely read.

It was only a further 30 minutes to the farm. There were 3 huge car parks and scores if not hundreds of families. I can’t remember what we paid as it was booked ages ago but when we got there we got tokens to redeem against various activities. We used £10 worth on picking our pumpkins and paid cash to top up the price as they had giant ones. Next we used tokens to pay £2 each to carve them. That was fun as it took a while to scrape the insides out then carve.

We spent our remaining tokens on 2 activities - the first was shooting the corn cannon - no targets were hit. The potato catapult was more successful as Mr C put his arms round the waist of first James and then Thomas to help pull back. They all got good hits at target but no prizes just good fun.

Before we went left we got them hot dogs.
Mr C and I will drop them off in Whitley Bay then it’s another hour drive home. We’ll definitely we having a G&T tonight!
