(307) What Lies Beneath
I decided to head back out with the camera to the same place I visited on Saturday in the hope of finding some better light. I did get a few 'keepers' from the hour or so I spent along the side of the River Devon but the best find was this double bridge. I've driven over the bridge many times but have never realised until today what lay beneath the top road bridge. The lower bridge was built in 1713, approximately 80 feet above the river and the upper bridge was built in 1816 at 120 feet above the river. The newer bridge is obviously larger and has a much less steep gradient on the approaches. The location is indicated on the map and should you find yourself in the area I'd recommend it for a walk in the woods.
