Royal Spoonbill

We have had a lovely few days with old friends from schooldays visiting us. We took the boat out yesterday despite the overcast skies and rain predictions it actually turned out a great day as the clouds kept it nice and cool and we only had a few showers of rain. We went up river quite a long way and the amount of bird life we saw was amazing - lots of Pied Cormorants in groups of about ten along the rock walls and on the sandy river flats and these Royal Spoonbills which I have never seen before (try large). We couldn't get too close as the water was too shallow for the boat so this is the best I could do but it was very exciting to see them. On Thursday we took our friends for a trip all aropund the area and ended up at Brooms Head beach for lunch and a walk. It is a lovely beach about a half hour drive south.
