Diary of an Edinburgher

Boosted!

Went all the way out to Ingliston, by the airport, to get our booster jabs this morning. When we got to the carpark, it was mobbed, and people in front of us were turning round and going away. We soon realised why, when we got to the chap giving directions. There was a one and a half hour wait - Did we want to go home and re-schedule? NO!

There were long queues inside, but then we got to the seats, where we just moved forward every so often, and so it wasn’t so bad. In fact, I had the foresight to bring my earpods and new Audible book along, so I actually got well through my book and wasn’t bored at all. Nor did I fall asleep.

My new (free) book is about Rosemary Kennedy, the ‘hidden’ Kennedy daughter, who was intellectually disabled, but the family kept it secret. She grew into a beautiful young woman, who went to parties, balls and had a varied, though sheltered, social life. But as she got older, she had fits and rages and hit out at people. When she was 23, her father was persuaded that a lobotomy would ‘calm’ her. He did not tell his wife until it was done. It was not successful, and she reverted to the mental capacity of a two year old child, and could not walk or speak intelligibly and was institutionalised for the rest of her life. Tragic story.

The flat upstairs, which was bought months ago in the summer, is now springing into a hive of activity - drilling and banging this evening - installing central heating. *sigh*

Leaves can be a bit of a hazard if you stick your beardy face in them, Archie.
