Dendrobium

We added another orchid to my collection when we were at the garden centre the other day.  This time it is a Dendrobium a type I have had before  Recently Dendrobiums seem to have massively increased in variety,  Certainly those varieties commonly available.   At one time it seemed you could have them in any colour you liked as long as it was white or white with a little flush of colour.  Suddenly much stronger colours are easily available.

This shot doesn't do the orchid justice it is a lovely deep purple with a velvety petal. The label tells me it is Dendrobium Sa-nook.  Sa-nook is a trade name it is also a Thai word, dendrobiums come mainly from Thailand.  It seems it is a word for various forms of enjoying yourself, in which case not a bad name as I am certainly enjoying the flowers,
