out of patiens

My neighbors' impatiens died from the cold nights we had last week. My impatiens, which I believe, with no evidence, was stolen and planted by a squirrel, is fine. It is in the corner by the garage door so it has brick on two sides and a tree on a third, protecting it from the cold and the wind.

Kate explained that my house and my prison grey wall protect my cute little new plants the same way.

BTW, natural gas prices are not going up because renewable energy is doing so well. We have just as much natural gas infrastructure now as we did in 2019. China had a drought, reducing hydropower, so China bought as much LNG as possible, reducing supply elsewhere. Europe had a weird Spring this year so there were fewer months to refill natural gas storage at the rate Russia usually does and Russia chose not to speed it up. If Europe doesn't have particularly cold weather, Russian supply will catch up to need in time.

In 2020 oil demand fell so oil supply fell. In 2021 oil demand recovered but Russia and OPEC did not match the increase in demand with an increase in supply at the same speed.

Anyone who tells you the energy crisis is because of renewable energy is full of compostable material.

Speaking of renewable energy, over the last decade utility-scale solar costs dropped by about 80 percent and are still declining.

The main city in Iceland, Reykyavik, has only 123,000 people. In the north the big city is Akureyri. It has fewer than 18,000 people. It has a botanical garden, 50 km from the Arctic Circle. It has 7,000 species, 400 of which are native. It is open from June through the end of September. It has a great little cafe in it. Sound appealing?
