NZ Spring 2024

Nelson Airports first flight 100 years ago.

Tomorrow. Thursday, will be 100 years of flying from Nelson Airport and to celebrate this a couple of vintage aircraft have flown in and I was fortunate enough to capture their arrival.
The green aircraft is a De Havilland Fox Moth while the white aircraft is a De Havilland Dominie which was the military version (RAF) of the De Havilland Rapide.
Flights will be made at the same time as the originals 100 years ago and pleasure flights will also be taking place through Saturday.

Nelson Airport's 100th Year.

The Extra is a further stage of the dismantling of the 80 year old hanger it was build by the Royal New Zealand Air Force but besides having asbestos for insulation it did not comply with Earthquake regulations and could not be used.  Eighty years ago it would have been considered a big building and to last this long is a testament to their craftsmanship. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the space?
