Ferruccio Lamborghini was the son of grape growers in Ferrara. After WWII he started building tractors from surplus military hardware. By the 1950s, Lamborghini's tractor company was one of the largest agricultural equipment manufacturers in Italy, and he was a rich man.

When he discovered that the clutch on his Ferrari was broken, and actually was the same clutch that he used on his tractors, Lamborghini went to Ferrari and asked for a better replacement. Ferrari said he was just a tractor maker, and didn't know anything about sports cars. The rest is history...
