Sore paw!
Another bright, still, sunny autumn day! And as I was intending to spend the afternoon on the sofa watching rugby, I knew that I’d better get out for a walk in the morning. Where shall we go, Archie? Well, actually - the vet…
I happened to look at his paw, which he’s been licking a bit of late, and spotted another wee red throbbing lump between his toes!! Oh no!- This could be another expensive emergency weekend vet visit if I don’t do something about it in the morning.
I rang them, and said that I needed a repeat prescription. I reasoned that by the time we walked there, it’d be ready to be be picked up. It took us about an hour, with several sit downs (me) but I am enjoying my new audiobook - ‘At Home’ by Bill Bryson. I’m a big fan of his, and he also narrates it. When I got there, the vets had been too busy to check Archie’s records. And anyway, they would insist on seeing him again, which I agreed was the best course of action. So we’ll just bathe his paw in Hibiscrub, or even salt water, and check it on Monday.
We got the bus back, and JR bathed his wee foot. He’s so good with medications - just stands there, unprotesting. Then he went off out with Elizabeth, so his paw isn’t bothering him too much, really.
JR went into town, and I settled down for an afternoon of rugby. Scotland were well beaten by South Africa, though for a while (two good tries!) they looked like they could perhaps hang in for a win. But too many mistakes - giving away too many penalties, losing their own line outs etc cost the game. A wee rest between games enabled me to get back to my book. It’s the history of ‘the home’ and very interesting it is too, full of fascinating facts, some of which I should try to remember and quote when in company to astound and amaze listeners…
