His ‘n hers…

One with apple, the other with dates. Both baked on a bit of a whim after my run and D’s tennis and swimming this morning.

The apple one is a Herman cake or Friendship cake. It has to be fed twice a week and it grows, like a culture. Then the idea is the mixture is divided into thirds; one you bake, one you give away and one you keep for the next time, feeding it all the time. After a long time of rest, it was good to see it still had life in it. It tasted delicious. I’m sure the date one will taste as good.

We’ve just watched Ed Balls second programme on the crisis in care for the elderly. Very sobering.
