Sights from my Bike Ride
I rode to Carter Lake today, a ride that I've been planning to do since spring. The road is narrow and there's no shoulder, so I had to wait until the "off season" when it wouldn't be too busy. Glad I waited, because there are are 3 long switchbacks and not much room on the road. The few drivers I encountered gave me plenty of room. It was mostly cloudy and in the low 70's, which was great because the sun wasn't in my eyes. I rode 35 miles and hit a maximum speed of 37.3 on the ride back down from the lake. :-)
Starting with the extras: The first is the view from the top of the dam. In the far distance is the town of Berthoud. I couldn't see Longmont from up there, it's further south. The second is a view of the lake. It's quite large and very popular for fishing and camping. The third is a beautifully restored '67 Camaro. I was standing off the road taking a photo of something else when it passed, so I got a shot. I used Google Lens to get the car ID. :-)
Top row: I think the eyes followed me as I passed this tree!
Our county and state are very bicycle conscious. There are signs like this on all roads that have little or no shoulder.
Mr. & Mrs. Sheep and their lovely dog.
Middle: Sign at a trail head near Carter Lake
Another creative mailbox
Smokey reminds us that the fire danger is still high. It will be even worse tomorrow when we'll be under a Red Flag Warning because of high wind and low humidity. We haven't had rain in a long time so everything is very dry.
Bottom: On the farm :-)
Another reminder to drivers on one of the switchbacks on the way to the lake.
An early start!
I am grateful for our continued warm weather. Most leaves are down now and it's looking pretty brown but there are still some late trees with nice color.
