Where is the tree?

Outside the Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh and I noticed the rings of snowdrops around the trees. Then I noticed a ring of snowdrops with no tree.

Presumably at some point there had been a tree standing tall and secure and yet now there is no sign, no mark, no indication, bar the snowdrops, of its former presence.
