Dittisham Quay
“He is closer now and the search is on
Reading from a map in the mind
Yes there's the ragged hill
And there's the boat on the river”
Don’t Pay the Ferryman : Chris de Burgh
I decided on the ferry crossing to Greenway for our visit to Agatha Christie’s summer home. At Dittisham Quay we rang the bell set on the wall; a passing local said we may have to wait, or ring again – he’d seen the ferryman going for a coffee. So he entertained us for ten minutes while we waited. It’s only a short crossing, but long enough to get a wet backside from the soggy seat cushion (it had been raining earlier).
The Christie family were inveterate collectors of…stuff, so there was plenty of interest. I know very little about Agatha so it was interesting to find out about her travels and archaeological experience in Mesopotamia and the Middle East, also the mural, painted by the US coastguard officer in the Library during WWII.
More scaffolding for repainting work so no outside photos of the house today.
