I feel stupid and contagious

So on the 7th I told you of my over-enthusiasm post windy walk, when I decided to wash the carpet. 

This is the result. 

No Carpet. 

About 3 days after the cleaning, the smell started.   I googled it; well you do don't you?    Apparently when you wash carpets and rugs enthusastically, there will be a resultant damp smell, until the backing dries out. 

This smell was awful.  And when I lifted it, it was indeed the backing which was still damp.  So we lifted it, and turned it, and laid it to dry over the top of a couple of stools and chairs.   Now we can't use the dining room, but i have this beautiful dance floor to make use of. 

(since I'm posting this 5 days hence - I'm delighted to tell you that living in a hot house for three days and intermittent spraying with febreze our carpet is now back down and smelling sweetly.
