Characteristic old tree!
Can you imagine the pain and agony this dear old tree had to deal with in it's lifetime? Just look at the crippling scars! But it still grows and boasts lovely foliage and berries for the birds to feast on!
I was actually surprised when I took a closer look at this tree on my walk in the property this afternoon. It is the same as the two trees in our garden, where the birds are feasting on the seeds we give them, as well as on the berries the tree bears, It is just much older and bigger than our trees.
R snr's mother thinks it is a White Stinkwood (Celtis Africana) because of the berries and the shape of the leaves, but the trunk of the White Stinkwood is distinguished by its smooth pale grey to white bark, and this tree has a very coarse, irregular grey to brown bark. I tried to identify it, but I am afraid, my beloved MissU2 will have to help once again!! ;-0
