Tongland Brig
Today's the day ....................... for a picture postcard
Will found this postcard today in our local antiques/bric-a-brac shop. It looks as if it was made from a framed photograph but it is an actual postcard. You can see the other side of it in extras - sent to a Miss Maude Stevens at School House, Mid Calder - in what I think must be 1909.
The reason he was so pleased to find it is that, nestling between the bridges halfway up on the left hand side of the picture, is the cottage that we presently live in. Of course, it all looks a bit different now because the railway bridge in the distance is no longer there - but readers of this journal will recognise the much-blipped Telford Bridge in the foreground. There are lots more trees now obscuring the view, so it's very interesting to see how it looked more than a hundred years ago.
What's also interesting (to us at any rate) is that the cottage, most definitely has a front door. That is now a window and there is no door at the front at all. There are also now dormer windows in the roof which must have been added at a later date.
Fascinating stuff .....................
