Sounds of autumn...
..is the rustle of the dry leaves when the breeze blows through the trees, a phenomena called psithurism, which sounds very onomatopeic, and is in fact derived from the greek word for whispering. The sound of autumn is also the cracking sound when you walk on a blanket of dry leaves. I adore it (it is second only to the sound of snow crunching under your feet), and can't resist to gently kick the leaves up in the air to amplify the sound and to watch the coloured mass fall slowly back to the ground. Yet another sound of autumn is the sound of chestnuts that crack open over the fire promising a warm treat, possibly enjoyed with a glass of young wine. Sound of autumn is also the sound of the falling rain, of pages being turned while reading the book you have been looking forward to reading and the sound of a flickering candle. Am I forgetting something?
