There are two theories to arguing with a woman
neither one works :)
A beautiful day today. I had forgotten the clocks were going forward but I was up early anyway with the sunshine streaming in through the window.
Started the day with a visit to our local animal rescue centre. It has open days on the bank holiday weekends and I always try and visit. Normally with the girls but sleep got the better of them this morning so I had a great time not having to worry about anyone elses schedule but my own.
Secret World is a charity that specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation and eventual release of Britain's orphaned, injured and sick wildlife and is the only 24/7 service in the South West. Quite an achievement.
They were able to help 5,583 sick, injured or orphaned creatures during 2012. They are very proactive in getting the resources/funding to constantly improve the site and the care they can give the animals. It is a sad fact that too frequently they are in the local papers telling us about some incident of neglect or cruelty, but there are always positive stories too.
Hubby and I were out walking along the Taunton canal last year, when he spotted a bird of prey sat on a fence, not thinking I would be able to get to it before it flew off, I had to give it a try!! Stealth like, well as stealth like you can be with clicky knees and a dodgy foot, I moved closer, and it didn't move .. initially I thought how lucky am I but then that soon turned to why. It was caught up on the fence by what we thought might be a creance (A long line or cord attached to the bird while training.) so not wanting to alarm him, we got on the phone to Secret World and they dispatched one of their volunteer drivers to come and get him. Aparently it's not uncommon for people to get these birds and realise they are hard work and then they dump them. This was the case with this one. Thankfully through the support network the rescue centre has this one would have re-homed.
So after a look around at the animals including my favourites the foxes, my adopted owl and the peacocks I returned to a still very peaceful household. The sun was still shining so hubby joined me for a walk to the top of Brent Knoll, spectacular 360 views.
My inspiration to get to the summit was a lady in her 80's with the mountaineering walking sticks making it look easy (it wasn't) we did eventually catch her up and with her admired the amazing views all the way across the Bristol channel to Cardiff. She was quite right when she said, this is why people climb mountains :)
