Watching the river flow...
With a back blip from yesterday's lovely walk by the Thames near Oxford with Jon and Sue. And a landscape extra.
As we always do when we see each other, we chewed the fat and vented a bit about the last 11 years of shambolic and wasteful right-wing government here... managing to intersperse a fair bit of laughter with the venting. Jon manages the Citizens' Advice Bureau in part of Oxfordshire, having retired from the civil service some years ago. He'll take retirement from that too, early in 2022. Sue recently retired from being a senior manager in social services. Both of them have been alternately stressed, bemused and driven to despair by the neglect of good governance and the funding cuts in UK policy and government processes.
Jon and I have known each other since we were students in the early 1970s. It's enormously comforting to pick up the threads of friendship again, to share memories and to share thoughts about how our children and grandchildren are doing.
I drove home early in the afternoon, leaving Jon to untangle a last-minute funding bid panic for the Citizens' Advice Bureau, and Sue to get everything ready for their three adult children to stay over the weekend.
Thanks to everyone who's visited, commented and left stars while I've been out of the loop for reciprocating. Catch-up time this weekend.
