Tiny Bloom And Big Ginge

Today's title encapsulates this image and my favourite story of the day.
Firstly, today's image is of this tiny bloom (there is actually a second one but it's not as photogenic, having lost more of its petals!) which is currently residing in a decrepit hanging basket on the outdoor wall of our extension. According to the label I found lying in the basket it is supposed to be a Geranium Zonal Green Leaf, Trend Lilac but it looks nothing like the picture so I like to think it is an interloper which has grown from a seed dropped by a passing bird. I have no idea how it has survived when any other plants in the basket have long since died and it has not been watered (apart from rain) since about June! Not my best shot but for some reason I felt like telling its story!
On to my favourite story of the day. Big Ginge is a cat that went missing from his owner's narrow boat (with the fabulous name of Funky Fish) a decade ago but has now been reunited with his delighted owners thanks to information gleaned from his microchip.
They had all but given hope that they would ever see him again when he failed to return to their boat which was moored at Fradley Junction near Lichfield in Staffordshire in 2011 - to make it so much worse they had been on their honeymoon at the time.
The couple have two other cats, Weasel and Diesel, and all three cats were used to living on the canal, would happily potter on and off the boat and there had never been any issues. However, on that fateful day Big Ginge failed to return. Eventually after five days they had to register him as missing.
Earlier this year, after almost ten years, the Cats Protection in Lichfield were made aware of a mysterious cat which a local man had been feeding (he had nicknamed him Marmalade) but then noticed he had a lump on his flank. An emergency appointment was made with a local vet - luckily the lump was nothing serious and this was when it was discovered that Marmalade was in fact the missing Big Ginge.
His owners are perplexed as to what he has been up to all this time and have decided he has had enough stress in his life, so for now they will be keeping him indoors.
Funnily enough there is cat from a house across the road that we have always called Little Ginge (we have no idea of its real name). It spends quite a lot of time in our garden and has even been known to sit on our doorstep but only lets you approach so far and then gives you what appears to be rather disdainful look and walks off!
