Sarah was driving to the station early his morning on her way to Glasgow, so I asked her for a lift and spent a few hours in Dumfries. I walked along the Nith and around the town while it was still quiet and then went to Gracefield to see some art. There are two current exhibitions - the South West Scotland Printmakers in one gallery and Archie Sutter Watt in the other (previously shown in the Kirkcudbright Galleries).

Archie Sutter Watt has been described as one of Dumfries and Galloway's "best loved artists" - he lived here for 50-odd years, after intending his visit to be a short stay. The majority of his works are local landscapes or wildlife, but this one caught my eye. It was done as a commission for Shell in 1955.
