Before my allocated time to visit S today I decided to go to Craigmillar Castle and take some photos of the views from the top of the tower which dates from 1374, as the weather was better than yesterday.   The extra shows the views in different directions. 
View approximately south west towards the Pentland Hills
                                 south east overlooking the Royal Hospital
                                 north east towards the Forth
                                 north west towards central Edinburgh and Arthur’s Seat
The views would have been very different in the time Of Mary Queen of Scots when there would have been very few buildings apart from on the skyline towards Edinburgh Castle.  However it would have been relatively easy watching ships sailing up the Forth or invading armies approaching from the south and east.
At the top of the tower is a room where Mary was believed to stay while she was ill in 1566.
