Life goes on

A rare sunny day after weeks of rain, so Sue and I joined about half the city in mobbing Powell Butte for a breath of fresh air only forty-five minutes from town. (The snowy mountain in the background was known to native people as Wy'east, renamed Mt. Hood by colonizers.)

Thank you for your many comments of solidarity, outrage, and dismay. I'm with you. As far as I know, not many were hurt during last night's activities. Police kettled some of the 200 protesters and flipped a woman in a wheelchair, bashing her head against the sidewalk. She's still in hospital. They used tear gas. I'm not sure what else. A few windows were broken, but it was not the "riot" police claimed it was. Tomorrow afternoon we may join others for a vigil and die-in at the art museum. It's a way to connect with community.
