Taking the knee

Just before the match started at Ashton Gate, the City players, the Blackburn Rovers players, the referee, both managers, all the City subs and back room staff took the knee. Some of the Black players also raised their clenched fists in the Black Power salute. Almost everyone in the crowd stood and applauded them throughout. I found this very heartening - things are improving. Many people genuinely care about racism.

The stand opposite looks a bit sparse- that’s because it’s the most expensive seats, with the least atmosphere. The others 3 stands were pretty full, there was 18,300 there altogether. City have been losing a lot lately, especially at home.  I hadn’t been to a match for about 2 years, though I do follow on the radio every week. The match was exciting and they played well for about 60 of the 90 minutes.  It ended in a  1 - 1 draw. That’s progress I guess.
