A Day of Beginnings

Sunny and very cold all day. Up early to fill the coolers, eat a quick bite and get on the road. My DIL texted right before we left that her sister had sent us dessert. Pumpkin pie and cheesecake made the perfect mid-morning snack and served as lunch. Hubby and I shared it. The trip was uneventful. We ran into only one back up - three police cars had cornered someone and everyone slowed down to gawk. The cloud formations sure were gorgeous all day. We stopped briefly several times so hubby could exercise his knee as requested by his surgeon when we asked if we could travel so far. The timing was perfect for us to get to Waynesburg, PA so we could grab bread, milk and slaw and still get to 4:00 pm Mass at St. Ann’s. The church isn’t elaborate but still beautiful. The priest gave a down to earth sermon and we had an Advent wreath blessing; the season has begun. I was happy to see The Ten Commandments pillars on the front grounds. These monuments have all but disappeared in our country. We arrived at the farm at 6:10 pm. As soon as the car was unloaded, my sister had a crockpot of pulled pork awaiting us. I made a bowl of slaw, we found a bag of chips and dinner was served. Other than the pie, we hadn’t eaten since breakfast so we were ready for those sandwiches at 7:15. The beginning of this vacation went well. Hoping your day was just as nice. Thanks for stopping by. Let’s hope we all avoid that latest strain of COVID. "It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope." - Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger).
