Not a Palm #2
This is Pandanus tectorius, often called pandanus palm, although it's not closely related to the palms. It's found from south Asia to eastern Australia and the Pacific islands. It typically grows close to the coast, and is very common around here.
I managed a short walk and some photos this afternoon when the rain eased. We had nearly 100 mm yesterday (4 inches in the old money!), and another 10 mm so far today. More is forecast.
