It’s a Mystery
…and has been ever since we found it whilst clearing out the in-laws house five years ago. It’s been in a box in the loft for most of the last three years, but it’s time to put it back out on display, because even though I don’t really have any idea what it is for, it is extremely tactile and interesting to look at. No idea what wood it is, but it’s very heavy for its size so definitely one of the hardwoods.
It has been suggested that it might have been a tool used in glove or shoe making - possibly for making sure seams are lying correctly if an item is turned right side out after being sewn. I can sort of see that, though I’d have expected it to be a bit more rounded if it was used to shape the fingers of gloves. Maybe I’ll find out what it’s actual purpose was at some point in the future, but for now I’m happy just to hold it and ponder (did I mention that it was incredibly tactile?)
Not a lot else achieved today. Coffee with Stu in Barrow this morning, followed by a visit to R&T to order an uprated pickup for the Jaguar bass. Whilst I was in Barrow, I thought I’d take the opportunity to call in at Stollers to see if they had an update as to when our settee and chairs might be delivered. Bad news - not until 30th December, so it was looking like garden chairs over Christmas! But then a bit of good news - they do offer “loan sofas” and they had a two seater available. But they only deliver to Kendal on a Thursday and we’re away for the next two Thursdays. Not worth having it on the 23rd as that’s only a week before the new stuff is due to arrive anyway. However, after a bit of negotiation with the warehouse, it was agreed they would put it in the wagon destined for Scotland on Monday, as they have to virtually drive past our door to get on the M6 anyway. So, all being well, we should be sitting in a bit more comfort from next week onwards.
