North Vancouver from the waterfront

From the waterfront area in downtown Vancouver you can admire the view across Burrard Inlet, watch seaplanes taking off and landing, and look out for bald eagles. There were two today sitting on a beacon way out in the sea.

This is the area from where the modern town of Vancouver developed, initially from the large sawmills which in the late nineteenth century processed much of the world's timber from the vast taiga forests. The historic Gastown area has many late nineteenth century buildings, often adjacent to glittering modern towers.

The tall buildings across the water are North Vancouver.
