Holy Nativity church
I think the clock tower is fabulous, and that verdigris roof can be seen from almost anywhere in Bristol. It’s just around the corner from my house. The church was built in the 1870s when Bristol was expanding and the Victorian houses in Totterdown and Knowle were being built. The tower wasn’t added until 1930. The church was destroyed by an air raid in 1940, but the tower remained standing, undamaged, and continued chiming. The church was rebuilt in 1955. I like the tower, it looks a bit Venetian to me, and the chimes on the quarter hour are similar to Big Ben. But I’ve never been in the church, perhaps I should.
