Cut off in its prime.

Most of the hundreds of trees felled in the area by storm Arwen fell over pulling their complete root ball out of the ground.
That is probably more common around here because we have such thin soils. The roots cannot penetrate to any significant depth
and so spread laterally.

This one was an exception breaking off part way up the trunk.

That storm did more damage than any I can recall for some years.
Tonight we have to cope with a second late Autumn storm. Storm Barra.
The strong winds will this time be coming from a more familiar direction - the south west.
It looks as though Ireland will suffer the worst impact. But keep your fingers crossed for us. 
We are not accustomed to power outages.
