Lasagne mulching

Now that I've marked out the new beds, my next job is to prepare the soil for the growing season.

I love a type of mulching called "lasagne mulching": the idea is to add several layers of mulch over the bed, cover it and give worms a few months to incorporate all that goodness into the soil.

This is what I've done here -
Layer 1: woodchips
Layer 2: cardboard 
Layer 3: homemade compost
Layer 4: wet leaves

I then covered with coffee sacks as I had some kicking about but weed control fabric would be just as good.

It took me the whole morning to do the first bed, I've got 3 to go, but it'll be worth it!
