Winter crop

I never bothered covering the sprouting broccoli plants with thin netting in the summer and, at one point, they were covered in cabbage flies but all 6 plants seem to have recovered now. 

It's been about 6-7 weeks since I spread manure over this bed and with the rain we've had recently, the plants are probably benefiting from the boost in the soil. They look pretty healthy to me.

I feel crops that overwinter (ie that will get battered by the elements in the next few months) deserve a helping hand!
