Winter salad leaves

The only readily available lettuce leaves that will withstand the worst of the winter weather without much protection and which thrives on colder weather is lambs lettuce, or 'mâche' in French (a very popular winter staple in France).

This late-summer sowing didn't taste like much in the autumn but since temperatures started dropping, it's developed a slightly sweeter taste. I'll sow more seeds in the greenhouse as there won't be much in the way of lettuces for a while now.
