Yes, I know, we don't like pigeons, but as I've already put a rat in my journal this week I might as well go the whole hog and post a pigeon too!  I actually think they're very underrated birds, both in terms of looks and as a successful species.  When I did a search on the question How fast do pigeons fly, I came up with the following:

The average pigeon can fly at a sustained average speed of 60mph, racing pigeons that have been bred for speed can significantly exceed this average. Pigeons can reach top speeds of up to 77.6mph for short periods and have been recorded flying as fast as 92.5 mph!

Kind of makes my slow walks look a bit inferior, doesn't it?  (Yes, Miranda, it certainly does!)  ;)))

Today I spent a lot of time faffing around wrapping Christmas presents.  As I said yesterday, this was meant to be a no-walk day.  But in the end, damp though it was I found I just had to get out for a short time, so I walked round the park, which is where I found this handsome fella.
