Glow Wild at Wakehurst Place

A second Christmas event after yesterday’s Carols on the Green. Susan spotted “Glow Wild” winter lantern trail at Wakehurst Place which is part of Kew Gardens and home of the Millennium Seed Bank and also a National Trust property.

There was much deliberation as how to plan the day as it was a 100 mile round trip and we were beginning to wonder if we’d made the right decision to go. In the end we set off in time to get there for our 7.10pm entry slot.

The visit was well worth the effort, superb trail with fascinating displays, zen like music which gave a feeling of calmness and a huge Christmas tree. The theme of the trail was beauty of nature that has blossomed in the pause of the last year, reminding us to tread lightly upon the earth.

The tree is the largest living Christmas tree in the UK at 36 metres in height and covered in 1800 lights. Many of the lanterns were made by local groups and schools with the whole trail taking hundreds of hours to install.

It took over an hour and a half to walk slowly around soaking up the ambiance and taking lots of photos, a few of which are in the extras.
